according to Twina Abraham, Haham Sasson is the son of Eliyahu and the grandson of Haham Moshe Halevy, this statement is supported by Ben Yaacov. Yehoshoua Moshe states in his article (copy held by Richard Smouha) that Haham Sasson is the grandson of Haham Moshe Halevy http://hazzan.qpon.co.il/Front/Newsnet/reports.asp?reportId=214102 Judge (Dayan) 1875-1876, and Haham Bashi 1877-1879, lived a long life, Known to the Jews of Bavel by the name of Rabbi Sasson Smocha. Because of a dispute he had with the rabbis he was fired from his position in 1879. Two of his poems were printed in poetry books, one in honor of Yehushua Cohen Gadol The Jews of Bavel used to chant them when going to the gravesites to pay respect. Sasson Eliyahoo R. Moshe Halewi (1820-1910), chief rabbi of Baghdad, 1976-82)Iraq, also known as Sasson Smouha. Ben Rabbi Moshe Halevy Smouha (d1838 - Haham Bashi 1836-1830), may God bless his soul, « Dayan » of the Court (Beth Din) and Chief Rabbi. He had a sharp tongue, he was good with words,and knew how to convince the government to do what he requested.. At the end of his life he studied with Rabbis as he still had a sharp eye and could still communicate clearly. He was strong and healthy until the end of his days. One day, Fracha, daughter of David Sasson called for him and the rabbis to visit her. He went with them on foot there and back and on his return he died in full view of the whole congregation. His name is inscribed in the book of Sacrificial Justice. May God bless his soul
