Sara Jacoby Ades, Granny's mother, came from Constantinople to live in Damascus with her husband's family when she was very young. Her own mother, (whose name is lost to the ages), had come to Constantinople from Russia, possibly Uzbekistan, and legend has it that she was a beautiful woman who came from Russia with gold coins woven into her long red hair. (jean Naggar) Sara, who was sent from Constantinople, jewel of the Ottoman Empire, to Damascus when she was only eleven years old to live with her husband's family. Sara's own mother, had come to Constantinople from Northern Russia, "Your mother, Sara, was married at eleven?" I asked in disbelief. "It was some time before Sara and Eli lived as husband and wife," I was told.
