I write to you from London where I\'ve lived since the age of 7, after my family left Cairo in 1956. My mother was Raymonde Massey (she died in August 2008). Her mother was Rachel Jassy (nee Mosseri). My brother is Brian Massey, the solemn little boy you mention in your memoir, Sipping from the Nile ! It was Brian who found your book on the internet, quite by chance when he was looking up the King David Hotel and there was mention of the Mosseri connection. One click led to another, and he ordered your book on Amazon ! And then so did I ! We were both enthralled by your account of those early years in Egypt, particularly as you managed to stir up such a wealth of memories, all evocative of a warm and familiar past. I know that Mummy used to visit your mother Joyce when she stayed with her brother, Lionel Jassy, in New York (some years ago now). There are so few people of that generation left (Lionel\'s ex wife Liliana Jassy lives in Boston). My grandmother, Rachel, came from Cairo to live with us in about 1962. She died in 1968. My grandfather, Sami Jassy, had died very young right at the beginning of Suez. It was that year, 1957, when we were allowed to return to Cairo because of his death, that you taught Brian for a few months before we eventually started at a boarding prep school here in England. My father, Bernard Massey (British), was not given permission to return so he remained in England till we were reunited in September 1957. Between 1960-61, Brian and I travelled back and forth to Cairo during the school holidays, whilst my parents undertook the final \'clear up\' in Zamalek before settling permanently in the UK.
